The Title Attribute

I have recently been pondering to myself the relevance of the title attribute in a link, you know what I mean, it's that rectangular box of words that appears when you hover the cursor over a link [sometimes], I think it is often sorely [and sadly] overlooked.

I checked about online with the folk because of whom I am "standing on the shoulders of giants", and it all seems to be a bit 50/50, some say google ignores it, others say that google does read it but doesn't care too much about it.

I don't know, analytics bore me. But I do think that sometimes we in seo get overtaken with the desire for google rankings and forget that sometimes we are there for the clients [black hat-ists excused], and sometimes we must yield to just making websites more accessable for the navigator, even though it might not yield results through through our normal chanels, but it might work for those who pay us.

In short, the title attribute may or may not help a site's rankings in google [I say if the title matches the targets meta title it certainly can't hinder], but it only takes a few more keystrokes, and it certainly would help onsite navigation, so you might as well do it.

See it's not that difficult, it helps the poor kids out there on the web, and it has more élan.
