Twtkr

Yes you're not reading that incorrectly, it says twtkr not twitter. Twtkr is a very strange thing that I noticed once whilst bored and searching for traces of myself in google. It seems to be a clone of every single twitter account [don't even think about the numbers], it seems to be Korean, and unlike twitter it does 'dofollow' links.

I wondered about it for a while and then I decided I'd start to link to it from here and there, then the other day I just noticed that it is now starting to get picked up by Site Explorer, which is very interesting as this means that it must be either getting rank, or has now been fully indexed by yahoo [thus presumably bing too]. Mmmm, I don't know how much use this will turn out to be, but I'm going to keep an eye on this one.

Yahoo, Google & Blekko [and 30boxes]

What is happening with yahoo? What is it there for anymore? With the fact that yahoo and Microsoft [you won't catch me linking out to msn] will be working ever more closely together, does this mean that the yahoo search engine will just wither on the vine, with bing taking over all search between the two. Internet savvy people still find a lot of yahoo's facilities very useful, I have a yahoo pipe for my blogs, at the moment there is nothing quite comparable to siteexplorer, I certainly have a yahoo mail account [or two], and many websites are fundamentally linked to yahoo, disqus & flickr for example.

On another tack, I was looking at google sites the other day, interesting linking policy, it seems that on many of the sites it had nofollow links in the main text, except if you linked to anything google. I don't know if this is automatic or not, I have a website, but it's still empty, and will be until I get the time to put some nonsense on it.

- NB since I wrote this, and just to confuse things further, it has come to my attention that from now on yahoo japan will be powered by google. But that is quite a different case.

New google images is a bit disconcerting at first, but after a day, I think I quite like it, maybe even prefer it!

I have to say I'm quite sad and get a bit excited when a new search engine comes out, so I am quite miffed by the fact that no matter how many times I have asked, the kids over at blekko haven't invited me for a shot. It's not there to really compete with google, but from what I read some of the functionality kicks the ass out of google's site commands for getting into serious SEO websearch, come on blekko, give us a shot!!!

In an addendum to a previous post, I came across another site which is great for syndicating your stuff, not only does 30 boxes give you a home URL with links to your homepage etc, if you submit a blog to it, it automatically syndicates it for you, fantastisch!!

BING

I can hear the cries of derision already, before I've typed a single word, but I'm going to say something that perhaps we SEOs think about. When are we going to think about thinking about taking Bing seriously?

I personally dislike the thing, but in the short time that it has been in existence it has continued to grow, even though it is still a gazillion [technical term] miles behind the big G but it is growing. This comes mainly from the fact that people get a computer, they just continue to use the Microsoft default settings [people are lazy].

Some of my friends have ridiculedme about thinking about this and I can't completely disagree with some of their statements "bings doubled its marketshare - 2 X 0 = 0" but I still think that we lose sight of the fact SEOs only worship at the altar of google because it is so big, and that we are 'search engine optimisers' first, and only temporarily 'googlemonkeys'.

Don't get me wrong I would much rather use Search or KartOO even teoma than touch microsoft with yours, but sometimes things are taken out of our hands. Maybe we should keep an eye on bing, it may be rubbish, but people are using it!!
