The world of SEO is undergoing one of those 'things' at the moment, we have a new toy! There is a new search engine out there and it is impressing us SEO-ologists in numbers, it's called Blekko,
Wait! Wait! What the hell is this, me writing a post on something related to SEO on an SEO blog... ach I've been wittering and twittering about Blekko for a while on LinkMünki holds Court, but i need to go on more about the Blekko, so...
In the way that people think that google is 'just' a search engine, well it is, but it's rankings have been SEO-ed to ****, Blekko is so malleable, Blekko gives control to the user [you can cut spam out of your SERPS [by clicking 'spam']] Blekko gives the user so much information at the drop of a hat that sometimes it's nearly overload. I love the fact that when you check inlinks it gives you a graphic illustration of both location from where the links derive, but it also breaks it down into most popular anchors, and gives you percentages. Then if that was not good enough, when you check the list of inlinks [a bit like siteexplorer, but...] it tells you whether they are follow or nofollow, the anchor and some new info I've yet to decipher.
I know what you are all thinking, -wow-LinkMünki-this-is-fantastische- but I haven't finished yet, with a little click you can move onto a bar graph oriented multiple [between 2 and 4] website comparison [again a lot of the info I am yet to decipher, but...], bar charts rule.
For the non geek, well... for the geek too, you can create your own ways of searching [called slash tags], which is like searching for an angle on your search term, so a search might be "hotel /edinburgh" or "edinburgh /hotel" giving a different result depending on which was the more relevant to you, both giving a different result to "edinburgh hotel" or "hotel edinburgh", which you just can't do in google [plus you can add sites to the slashes, and you can create your own slashes, and make them public].
But calm down, google isn't quite dead yet, the size of the google index is ridiculous, no other search engine is likely to come close to it for well ... ages, google is still so popular and Blekko [so far] helps people look for stuff that can be so specific. But I can tell you that it is yet to be SEO-ed yet so for the moment it still gives you helpful results, not just results from companies with the best SEO's, Ima love playing with Blekko for the time being, and just pray that google doesn't get their big fat chequebook out quite yet [sorry Blekko can you wait a couple of years till you get very, very rich!]
